How do I set up and use a room key in Apple Wallet?

After booking your stay at a hotel that supports room key in Apple Wallet, you can add your room key to Apple Wallet via the World of Hyatt app. Just tap the button that says “Add your room key to Apple Wallet” on your upcoming stay card and follow the steps.

Once your room key has been added to Apple Wallet and you’ve checked in, your room key will automatically activate so that you can securely access your room, the pool, fitness center, and other common spaces without opening an app or unlocking your device. Simply hold your iPhone or Apple Watch against the lock until you hear a click.

When you add a room key to Apple Wallet on your iPhone, it is automatically added to your paired Apple Watch.

Hyatt’s standard digital key utilizes Bluetooth technology that allows guests to use the World of Hyatt app on their iPhone or Android phone as a digital key.

Where can I use a room key in Apple Wallet?

In addition to opening your room, your room key can be used in the same areas where you would use a plastic key*:

In the elevator, to gain access to your room’s floor if required
To access the pool and fitness center
To enter through exterior hotel entrances
To access hotel parking garages

*Room key-enabled access to other areas may differ by hotel.

Why can I only use a room key in Apple Wallet at some hotels?

There are currently a select number of hotels that can support the new room key capabilities. Other Hyatt hotels that support digital keys will be adding support for room keys in Apple Wallet soon.

How can I tell if I am able to use a room key in Apple Wallet?

When you book a stay at a Hyatt hotel or resort, look for a button that says ‘Add to Apple Wallet’ on the booking confirmation screen, or on the upcoming or current stay cards in the World of Hyatt app. If you can use a room key in Apple Wallet, the app will indicate that the hotel supports this type of room key.

How can I add a room key to my Apple Watch?

When you add a room key to Apple Wallet on your iPhone, a room key will automatically be added to Apple Wallet on your paired Apple Watch.

Once added, simply hold your Apple Watch near the door lock until you hear a click.

How will I know when my room key is available?

Once your phone has been authorized, a room key can be added to Apple Wallet after you book a reservation. The room key will automatically activate once you check in and your room has been assigned.

How does a room key work?

After your room key has been activated in Apple Wallet, simply hold the device against the lock until you hear a click. There is no need to unlock your device or even open an app.

With how many iPhones can I use room key in Apple Wallet?

You may add room keys to Apple Wallet on up to two iPhones per World of Hyatt account, per hotel. If you need to switch iPhones, you may add a room key to a third iPhone. In this case, the room key will be automatically removed from the first iPhone and added to the third.

How many Apple Watches can I use with room key in Apple Wallet?

Similar to iPhones, you may add room keys to Apple Wallet on up to two Apple Watches per World of Hyatt account, per hotel.

Can I use a room key in Apple Wallet and a plastic key card?

Yes, you can use both.

Can I use room keys in Apple Wallet if I have a reservation for multiple rooms?

Yes. Your room key will be automatically activated for each room that you have reserved.

What if I have multiple stays at a hotel?

When you add a room key to Apple Wallet, the room key will be ready for your next upcoming stay at the hotel. When you check in, the room key will be activated for your current stay only. Upon checkout, the room key will be updated to again reflect your next upcoming stay at the hotel. The next time you check in, your room key will again be activated for your current stay only.

What if multiple people are staying in one room?

Multiple people on different devices can use a room key, provided that each person is logged into their own World of Hyatt account that shares the same reservation. Further sharing of room keys is not supported at this time.

Can I still access my room if my iPhone needs to be recharged?

On iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and more recent, Express Mode with power reserve may be available for up to five hours after the device’s battery needs to be charged. Express Mode is automatically enabled on your room key when added to Wallet. Visit support.apple.com to learn more about Express Mode.

What if my iPhone or Apple Watch is lost or stolen?

If you think your iPhone or Apple Watch is lost or stolen, you can use iCloud.com or the Find My app on another Apple device to keep your room key information safe.
